In September of 2019 the Society of Professional Journalists presented me with the Robert D. G. Lewis award at their Excellence in Journalism convention in San Antonio.
HUGH M. HEFNER FIRST AMENDMENT AWARD
Spring of 2019
In February of 2019 I was named as a winner of the Hugh M. Hefner First Amendment Award in the journalism category "for fighting against years of school censorship and for publishing [my] final, and shocking, investigative article about sexual misconduct records." I, along with my fellow winner of this award, will accept it at a ceremony in the Newseum in May of 2019.
CONTRIBUTING WRITER FOR THE JOINT "SINCE PARKLAND" PROJECT
February 12, 2019
Myself and 199 other student journalists worked for a year, writing obituaries for all 1,200 minors killed by gun violence in the 12 month period following the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida. This project was a joint production between The Trace and the Miami Herald.
