Web experience

In June of my Freshman year I personally redesigned the Playwickian website and updated our archives to the current year. Although most of this redesign was done through simple application tools, I had to learn a bit of coding to edit the appearance of the site.

Unfortunately, in the spring of my sophomore year the administration of our school removed student access from our website. The next year, we had a new advisor. With these changes our staff has had little-to-no control over our web presence since then.

Despite this, we are still allowed sometimes to arrange the layout of our online pieces, and we are sometimes able to post articles in a timely manner as prior review is shortened greatly when there are only one or two articles up for review by administrators. In general, we are able to post all articles on the same day as the distribution for our print editions and, in some months, to release online-only editions. When we cannot release news in a timely manner due to prior review, we post short bulletins to our social media accounts as can be seen to the right.

In my sophomore year I suggested that we make an addition to our website of writer biographies/portfolios so our readers could easily learn about who was writing content and find their other pieces. The presentation of this can be seen below.

Digital presentation

Below are some of my favorites as far as my work with digital presentation goes. Some of these pieces overlap into my other examples, but I see the substance of pieces and their digital presentation as separate entities as far as journalistic skills are concerned.

About: This article was presented using a wide range of imagery that was collected at the DNC. We employed a fade-in title and added a gallery at the foot of the article to include more photos beyond the original layout. I took all attached photos and was aided by my fellow editors in designing the digital layout.

About: This editorial has been arranged in a split-column format so that it can be easily seen that it is a two-part piece. It is headed by a simple graphic and incudes a photo for each individual part. I designed this digital presentation with the help of my fellow editors in my junior year of high school.
